Description: Future studies that could help clarify the association between vaccinations, adjuvants and autoimmunity should ideally have a different design, more long-term data and should include autoimmune phenomena as well as large-scale epidemiological studies of autoimmune diseases.
Description: Abstract. Autoimmune/Autoinflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants (ASIA) is a relatively new syndrome, introduced in 2011. Diagnosis of ASIA is based on major and minor criteria encompassing generalized signs and symptoms such as persistent fatigue, cognitive difficulties, neurological deficits, myalgias/arthralgias, and dry mouth.
Description: Furthermore, these four diseases share a similar complex of signs and symptoms which further support a common denominator. Thus, we review herein the current data regarding the role of adjuvants in the pathogenesis of immune mediated diseases as well as the amassed data regarding each of these four conditions.
Description: Industrial, academic, and governmental experts studied vaccine adjuvants safety. • Evidence of signals for autoimmune disorders associated with adjuvants was reviewed. • Existing adjuvants (used in marketed vaccines) and novel adjuvants were included. • The focus was on oil-in-water emulsion and toll-like receptor agonist adjuvants. •
Description: Within the reported immune diseases, 69% were well-defined immune diseases (autoimmune, autoinflammation, and mixed pattern diseases). Among the well-defined immune diseases following the exposure to adjuvants, polygenic autoimmune diseases were significantly higher than autoinflammatory disorders (92.7% vs 5.8%, respectively, p < 0.001).
Description: In some cases, adjuvants may trigger generalized autoimmune response, resulting in multiple auto-antibodies, but sometimes they can reproduce human autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid ...
Description: One of the enduring myths (there are so many) about the HPV vaccine is that it is linked to one or more autoimmune syndromes, an abnormal immune response to a healthy body part. These claims, pushed by an Israeli physician, Yehuda Shoenfeld, are called “autoimmune syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA)” and, sometimes, Shoenfeld’s Syndrome.
Description: Autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants, also known as Shoenfeld's syndrome or ASIA, is a theoretical autoimmune disorder proposed by Israeli immunologist Yehuda Shoenfeld in 2011. According to Shoenfeld, the syndrome includes four conditions: "post-vaccination symptoms," macrophagic myofasciitis, Gulf war syndrome, sick building syndrome, and siliconosis.
Description: The very fact that TLR activation leads to adaptive immune responses to foreign entities explains why so many adjuvants used today in vaccinations are developed to mimic TLR ligands. Alongside their supportive role, adjuvants were found to inflict by themselves an illness of autoimmune nature, defined as ‘the adjuvant diseases’.
